Alloy wheels require much more care and attention than regular steel wheels. Below are some tips that will not allow Your wheels to get terrible looks.

More and more drivers are choosing alloy wheels for their cars primarily because of their appealing looks. Different modifications allow to adjust wheels to the design of a car. Yet, the history of alloy wheels began long ago. A few decades ago they were used exclusively for motor racing purposes. Such wheels could ensure lower weight and better ventilation of brake disks that were exposed to overheating thus loosing efficiency.

How To Maintain Alloy Wheels

Our tips will help You maintain Your wheels in a perfect condition without applying serious efforts.

Wheel Washing

First of all You should wash the wheels thoroughly as brake dust and mud do not come off easily. You should use a good shampoo and high pressure washing (if possible). Then You should wipe the wheels dry and leave them on the sun for some time.

Polishing

As soon as the wheels become completely dry You should polish them. For that You will need a good polish that is intended exclusively for alloy wheels. Remember: good polish provides good adhesion and works on the molecular level.

Special Sprays

Quite spread are special sprays – compounds that coat the wheels thus protecting them from water. It is better to use such compounds after polishing as they create double protection.

Maintenance

Alloy wheels have a bad property – they can break off due to a strong stroke what leads to such unpleasant consequences as loss of pressure in the tire and costly changing. That’s why You should regularly examine Your wheels for small splits. If You find them – turn to the service station immediately.

Balancing

Once a year, when changing the tires, You should have Your wheels balanced. Not-balanced wheels are exposed to damages to a greater extent. Balancing is also essential for safety – You may lose steering at high speeds.
