Millions Of Americans Operate Bald Tires

Research conducted by the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) showed that 11% of the inspected vehicles have at least one completely worn tire.

More than 7000 vehicles were checked during the research. RMA notes that worn tires can cause serious accidents especially in the rainy weather conditions of the autumn and winter period. If to consider the results of the research true for all the United States it can be assumed that around 28 million vehicles on the American roads expose to danger the life of their owners and other participants of the road traffic.

According to the data of American Automobile Association (AAA) more than 33,2 million drivers will make trips on the occasion of the Thanksgiving Day, and around 4 million will use “bald” tires.

Telephone survey conducted by RMA this year also showed that 64% of car owners don’t know how to measure the depth of the tread, and 9% have never done it. “Taking into account unfavorable economic conditions the drivers postpone the replacement of the tires to curb their expenses, - announced Charles Cannon, the president and managing director of RMA. – But these postponements can lead to greater troubles as worn tires may cause accidents and deaths.”

Millions Of Americans Operate Bald Tires

“Your tires hold the vehicle on the road in the literal sense, - added Mr. Cannon. – “Bald” tires are of serious danger as they can’t provide necessary level of traction, increase the braking decrease and can cause skidding or loss of steering control.”

Many owners not only don’t watch over the tread depth but also don’t pay attention to the pressure level. The tires with insufficient pressure level make the riding less safe, wear quicker and increase fuel consumption level.

The similar research conducted by RMA in March-May of this year (5400 vehicles were inspected at that time) showed that only 9% of the vehicles have all four tires with sufficient level of pressure. 50% have at least one tire with insufficient level of pressure. 19% of those vehicles have at least one tire with the pressure level that is lower than the optimal by 55 Kpa.
