Hoosier Tires

The history of Hoosier Tires is a story of two young Indiana entrepreneurs that managed to realize their dreams. Robert and his wife Joyce Newton started to manufacture their own race tires with soft compounding in 1957. They chose the name “Hoosier” for their company because Robert was racing on the short tracks of the Midwest. The purple company color was taken from the Robert’s forth race car. The couple did all their best to make the company successful. They even mortgaged their house in order to build the world’s first racing tires factory. It began its work in 1979 under the name "R & J Mfg. Corp." (for Robert and Joyce).

In its first competitions Hoosier gained 9 victories and world fame. In 1991 Hoosier Tires presented their first radial race tire that came in the Busch Grand National series. The following year Hoosier built its second plant that started to manufacture tubeless radial race tires for high speed tracks.

1995 was the significant year for the company because Hoosier was chosen as the sole supplier for all series events for the Automobile Racing Club of America. That entailed the staff increase. Mew engineers, compounding developers, product managers and track support personnel were accepted for employment. In 1998 the company founders changed its name into "Hoosier Tire & Rubber Corp." Thus the new company era began.

Nowadays, Hoosier is the world hugest race tire manufacturer whose production is made in the USA. Today it is the largest employer in Plymouth, Indiana. It produces more than a thousand race tire types. Hoosier Tires has their own technology center, fully-integrated production facilities and the network of distribution in Lakeville, Indiana, which others seek to emulate.

    Hoosier Radial Wet Tire
Hoosier Radial Wet tire is a summer tire for passenger cars. The tire has been developed for those drivers of sport cars who take part in road racing events in rainy conditions. Radial Wet uses special rubber compound that provides excellent wet traction. A directional tread pattern has “Y-shaped” circumferential and lateral grooves that efficiently withdraw water from the footprint thus increasing hydroplaning resistance level. After the initial portion of the service life (tread depth between 8/32-inch and 4/32-inch) the tire wears and the groove walls taper. Through the remainder of the service life the walls are molded vertically thus enabling confident wet traction.
